专利说明:

[001] The present invention relates to a connection flange assembly for a wheel rim and a brake disc.
[002] In particular, the present invention relates to a flange assembly connecting to a wheel rim and brake disc, for example, for commercial vehicles.
[003] As is known, commercial vehicles have the support elements of wheel rims, or hubs, comprising bearings that are sufficiently robust to be able to withstand high transport loads.
[004] Typically, these hubs are connected to rolling shafts or to drive shafts, or motors, which allow a free rotation of the bearing and, therefore, of the wheel rim connected to it, or the transmission of a torque.
[005] In the case where these hubs are used in commercial vehicles, the housed bearings must support even very high loads. Although the friction between the shaft and the hub is particularly limited, due to the use, for example, involving bearings, for example, roller bearings, in the event that the action to be transmitted through the bearing is particularly high, it is generated considerable heating of the bearing and all the components adjacent to it. This heating has to be dissipated properly so as not to compromise the correct operation of the bearings housed in the hub and, therefore, possibly from the disc to the disc brake that is connected to it.
[006] In addition, the braking system determines, when actuated, a particular heat production. In fact, the vehicle's braking action converts, due to the friction between its components, kinetic energy into thermal energy. The fact that the disc brake disc is connected to the wheel rim support hub determines, in the case of repeated and intense braking actions, for example, in the case where the vehicle has to travel down a passage in a mountain, a large increase in the temperature of the disc brake disc and also of its parts connected to the hub and, in particular, in the bearing, thus causing considerable heating of the bearing housed there. In the event that the brake disc is not cooled properly, it is possible to compromise the correct operation not only of the disc, but also of the bearing.
[007] Therefore, the need to design and provide a solution that allows adequate cooling not only of the disc brake disc, but particularly of the interface between the disc brake disc and the bearing received therein, is particularly felt.
[008] Solutions are known that present the means for the passage of cooling air through the wheel rim, in particular, through the connection flange between the hub and the wheel rim.
[009] For example, EP 1 162 385 by SAF Holand GmbH discloses a mounting device for a wheel comprising a wheel hub and a flange having a wheel mounting portion to be connected to the wheel, and showing a portion of the hub assembly to be connected to a wheel hub. Ventilation passages are provided between the wheel assembly portion and the hub assembly portion.
[0010] This solution has considerable disadvantages, because it allows the cooling air to pass through the hub openings and the rim connection flange by evacuating the heat developed by the braking surfaces, in particular, the braking surface facing the rim, but in no way can the cooling of the heat developed by the bearing, or transmitted to the bearing, through the brake disc drum occur.
[0011] Other solutions for the hub and rim connection flange openings are known from US 3,952,820 documents by SKF Nova AB and from US 5,921,633 documents by Fag Automobiltechnik AG, which, however, present the following drawbacks of the solution of EP 1 162 385.
[0012] Therefore, it is particularly felt the need to manufacture a disc flange assembly for the disc brake that allows adequate cooling not only of the disc, but also of the bearing, and in particular, that allows an adequate evacuation of the fluid from the disc. cooling.
[0013] Therefore, the objective of the present invention is to design a connecting flange for a wheel rim and flange assembly and brake disc that allows to solve the inconveniences of the state of the art, while allowing adequate cooling of the bearing and the brake disc, as well as providing a simple solution to be implemented and easy to maintain, which prevents the direct connection of the brake disc to the wheel rim.
[0014] According to a generic embodiment, a set comprises a flange and a disc, said disc having a brake band and a drum. Said drum has an outer surface of the drum. Said drum is suitable for receiving a bearing internally so that said disc is interposed between said bearing and said flange. The flange comprises an inner ring coupled with the disc and an outer ring capable of being coupled with a wheel rim. Said flange also comprises an intermediate portion which has the opening through the flange and defined by an opening edge, which comprises its portion of the radially innermost edge, that is, closer to the axis of symmetry of the flange and / or the disc . Preferably, at least a portion of the outer surface of the disc drum is arranged radially more outwardly with respect to the portion of the flange opening edge arranged radially inwardly.
[0015] According to yet another generic embodiment, a set comprises a flange connecting a wheel rim to a brake disc. Said flange comprises an annular body that extends around an axis of symmetry. Said body comprises an inner ring suitable for the connection of the brake disc and has a first surface which extends substantially radially and facing the disc and a second opposite surface of the disc. Said inner ring comprises a disc coupling portion. Said flange body also comprises an outer ring suitable for connection to the wheel rim and which has a third surface that extends substantially radially and facing the disc, as well as a fourth opposite surface of the disc and facing the wheel rim. Said outer ring also comprises a coupling portion of the rim. Said body of the flange also comprises an intermediate junction portion between said inner ring and said outer ring, said intermediate portion comprising a plurality of openings passing through the flange, which are distributed circumferentially. Said plurality of openings has an opening edge, and each of said openings has a radially internal portion, which defines the opening for the axis. Said assembly also comprises a disk for the disk brake disposed about an axis of rotation. Said disc comprises a brake band which extends around said axis of rotation and forms two opposite braking surfaces suitable for cooperating with the pads of a brake caliper disposed mounted on said brake band. Said disk also comprises a drum, which comprises a drum connection flange which has a connection portion suitable for connecting the drum to a bearing housed therein. Said connection portion of said connection flange comprises a surface facing the bearing and an opposite surface facing the flange, so as to leave said disk with its connecting flange between said bearing and the connecting flange on the wheel rim. Said drum also comprises a corner or edge portion which is arranged radially outwardly from the connecting portion. Said drum also comprises a body of the drum that connects to said edge of the brake band which defines a space on the outside of the drum, for example, a space between the drum and the wheel rim, or on the outside of the drum. wheel rim, and internally defines a gap between the drum and the bearing housed therein. This span extends substantially axially along the entire drum until it reaches said edge. Preferably, said edge defines at least one opening of the drum that leads to the gap, present from the body of the bearing drum, in communication with the outside of the drum and, in particular, with the opening of the flange. Said opening of the drum has a radially internal portion of the opening edge of the drum. Preferably, one of said openings of said plurality of openings of the flange has its radially internal portion of the opening edge substantially radially aligned or with substantially the same distance from the axis of symmetry with respect to the radially internal portion of the opening edge the opening of the drum.
[0016] Due to the provision of an outer surface of the drum radially more external to the radially inner or lower edge of the flange opening, it is possible to place the drum part in communication with the opening of the cooling fluid evacuation flange, allowing the bearing to cool, as well as the brake disc to cool.
[0017] In addition, due to the provision of a drum for the brake disc, on the edge of which an opening is provided for the evacuation of the cooling fluid from the gap inside the drum, which separates it from the external bearing when rim, passing through the flange opening, it is possible to also adequately cool the interior of the drum and, therefore, also the bearing directly, bringing it in direct communication with the outside of the wheel rim.
[0018] In addition, due to the solutions described, it is possible to dismantle the wheel without separating the flange from the rim, in order to make the possible replacement of the worn disc particularly easy and quick.
[0019] In addition, according to one embodiment, the number of openings on the flange is equal to the number of openings provided on the end of the drum, reducing the total number of openings on the flange and making the last one much more resistant to mechanical stresses which are present, for example, in commercial vehicles. At the same time, the envisaged solution makes it possible to present a flange body and, in particular, an inner ring for coupling the disc thereof, in a lighter weight, but at the same time, sufficiently robust, since it is coupled with a large extension or connection portion of the same on the drum flange, thus being a thin inner ring of the flange, still adequately robust, at the same time allowing the weight reduction of the set as a whole.
[0020] Due to the proposed solution, it is possible to release the brake disc from the wheel rim and interpose it between the flange and the bearing, while preserving the proper ventilation of the bearing, allowing the evacuation of the cooling fluid from the gap between the bearing and the disc directly outside the wheel.
[0021] These and other objectives are achieved by a set as described in claim 1 attached here.
